One of the most important things to do in order to sell pictures is to previously study the sites. This is a good chance to get the idea of what people is looking for and which pictures are good enough to be put up. In my case I have been able to sell some pictures, and it is amazing how people are interested in so many different subjects, even abstract pieces. Maybe the most important matter here is creativity, if your picture is unique it has a better chance, so if you are putting up a picture of landscape or flowers, it has to be a very different “flower” or landscape picture, taken in a unique way cause there will be many others. Quality is another important thing. And at last be patient, but be sure that money will come, you can make money this way for sure.
You just made my day complete. I am a newbie when it comes to photography since I just bought this SLR camera which is really hard to navigate though I really love taking photos. I’ll tell you what the best thing about making money from taking photographs, it’s a residual drip feed income that requires no effort once you’ve made your submission!
What I mean is, once you have taken the photograph, submitted it to a stock photo website and had it approved, you do NOTHING but watch the money come in week after week as people buy your photo.
Now, it’s only fair to point out that getting the photo’s approved can be tricky, they need to be really good, BUT, the advantage here is that because the approval process is strict, when you photo does get approved, it is very likely to start being selected by clients.
Here’s a tip to get started, when you sign up to a photo stock site, look at the most popular and busy photographers, and look at the busiest niche of photos. By doing this you will quickly get a feel for where the money is, and will have just leapfrogged yourself to the front of the money queue!

I would personally suggest people with a lot of photographs to use the website Flixya. While it is not a stock image website, the payout can be relatively high if you take the time to upload a lot of pictures and utilize keywords and other SEO methods to get them recognized. Flixya pays out using Google Adsense, however unlike most websites, you earn 100% percent of the earnings. That surprised me extensively, and I initially thought it was fake or some sort of scam. Needless to say, after doing a little research, apparently Google has done a case study on their website and it works just like it says it does. While I have only just begun with their website, it is a great little avenue of hosting your pictures and making some money passively on them. Additionally, you can post articles, blog posts, and videos to the site too! It is all around a great place to be, and will be as it gains more momentum and the payment per click on each ad increases! I’d suggest getting in their early and fast so you’re there from the (near) beginning.
